Hi guys! please help a newbie! I recently purchased a Fanuc Tape Drill Mate Model T CNC milling machine. I don’t know how to make the X Y axes tied, in offsets only the Z axis? Thank you!

Hello! Please explain why the working offset has a positive value z616.726, although the machine coordinates are negative.

I have to ask: did you eventually make any money from the slugs left over by the 1000+ parts you did with the trepanning on the Takisawa? I have been wondering if it pays especially when the material is not super alloys or titanium etc. Also it occurred to me that many of the parts you would get from 50 or so mm round bar stock would be preferred to be machined directly from full lenghts. Nevertheless, the trepanning made for a very efficient process as there is a lot less machining although doing it on a CNC can be not only sketchy but impossible because the tool won't fit especially when the workpiece is larger in length. It's a very interesting operation but I guess there is a reason that no tool supplier that I know of carries a line of trepanning tools.

Well there you go on the Puma. I commented on another video about it. too bad it actually happened.

Cool. On the Puma clearances and crash risk, the company I started working at has a policy of doing every last job via Hypermill with full simulation. Preventing crashes is paramount. We are already pretty much there in the milling department but have to start doing the same with the turning. I have watched quite a few videos on machine crashes and the associated direct and indirect cost. It looks like the software will more than pay for itself. Also it will make the workflow much more uniform as well as give new life to older but mechanically still sound machines where it is difficult to impossible to find operators for.

Two more questions. - Why is the Walter axial grooving tool inverted? - Why is there so much coolant spewing out from behind the turret, as is apparent at the trepanning operation? Defective seal?

This looks like a great channel. Pretty sure I've come across it before. I just started a job in a machine shop here in Holland doing mainly one-off large jobs. Milling is all programmed with Hypermill (which I am learning) but the turning department is all programming on the shop floor. We have the turning module in Hypermill so I'm already practicing making the first turning programs. We have two Okumas and a couple of large teach in machines (Geminis, Montfors). The trepanning is amazing, we could easily make such tools ourselves, I think with the large work we run it may be profitable. Will keep it in mind anyway.

Something I learned about facing thin tubing was to cut from the inside to the outside. It forces the tubing to push against the chuck jaws and won’t collapse in on itself.

Glad to see a new video, iv'e been watching for a while and have loved all the videos. my last shop was all mainly haas mills, i know everybody wants to say haas is trash or whatever but for a prototype shop or a job shop they are really good. they can handle hard stuff and you just have to look at them like a bridgeport or a not as ridgid machine. Gotta go 'oldschool' sometimes and not try to beat the shit out of them and they'll make good parts. now i just work with japanese machines and people at the shop talk bad about haas but you cant blame the machine. You just have to learn it and work around its downfalls. Ive milled some hard and big ass shit on the haas's its all about feeds and speeds. that vf6ss couldbe a beast my man 🤟, KEEP UP THE CONTENT BRUTHER

It's great to see you back again 👍👍 It was only a few weeks ago I left a comment asking for another video. Just to see how you're going. Still Subscribed after so many years following along. Yes, you definitely have a few more machines since we last saw you. The Mazak / Mazatrol is what I consider the best machine with the best controller. Siemens is a very close second. I could have done with the Siemens on my latest DN Solutions / Doosan Lathe ?? The only reason I went with the Fanuc was mostly waiting time which is around 12 Months ???? And to add to this pain an additional $10K. IF I wanted the Siemens option. 10k I could sort of live with ?? But waiting 12 months for the machine ???? IF you feel like sharing something in a video that might be interesting to watch. Just post it. Don't be too concerned about what you should post. Most of us are just interested see what's happening with you at the moment. Your machine in your basement, might be a good video to start with.

I also own and operate a shop, but in California. For me the most expensive things are labor and shop floor space. Around here, it is very unusual to have more employees than machines and the ratio is usually over 2:1. Also your shop is much larger and more spread out than mine. Mine looks like it could be in Tokyo with how close the machines are to each other. Employee's wages are so high that it doesn't make sense to have anything but the best and fastest machines since the equipment is cheap compared to the employee. Also it is worth it for me to buy compact machines and pay extra for machines that give the same travel in a smaller footprint. Thanks for the update. Clearly you have optimized for the economic conditions you find yourself in.
